American Association Daily Recap: August 31, 2019
In this edition of American Association Daily, Robert Pannier examines the highlights, transactions and news from the American Association for August 31, 2019. There were six games played on Sunday, including the Kansas City T-Bones moving into sole possession of first place with a dramatic walk-off victory, and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks hurting the Cleburne Railroaders playoff chances with a 4-3 victory.

Ijames Walk-Off Hit Wins It for T-Bones in 10
Stewart Ijames singled home Dylan Tice with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Kansas City T-Bones defeated the Sioux City Explorers, 3-2. With one down, Tice reached on a hit by pitch and moved to second on a stolen base. Ijames then lined a 1-0 pitch for a base hit, bringing home Tice with the winning run. Ijames finished with three hits. Hunter Smith earned the victory with two shutout innings.
RedHawks Rally to Down Railroaders, 4-3
For the third time in the last four nights, the Cleburne Railroaders bullpen failed to hold an eighth inning lead, giving up three as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated Cleburne, 4-3. Correlle Prime tied the score with a two run single and the winning run came home on a passed ball. Prime finished with three RBI. John Nester drove in two for Cleburne.
Dean Grand Slam Highlights Dogs Victory
Jordan Dean hit a grand slam in a decisive five-run fifth inning as the Chicago Dogs defeated the St. Paul Saints, 9-3. Carlos Zambrano earned his fourth victory of the season, allowing three runs in five innings. The victory was the fifth straight for Chicago.
Griffin, Bullpen Combine to Blank Saltdogs, 2-0
David Griffin tossed 5.1 scoreless innings and three relievers helped to complete the shutout as the Gary Southshore RailCats defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs, 2-0. Griffin allowed one-hit, and Lincoln would get a total of two hits. RBI’s by Hayden Schilling and Jackson Smith were all the offense that the RailCats staff needed.
Zhang Tao Dominates Milkmen, 3-1
Zhang Tao continued his dominating run on Saturday, allowing one hit in eight innings as the Texas AirHogs defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen, 3-1. Zhang had a no-hitter for 7.2 innings before José Rosario doubled to spoil the bid. Javion Randle drove in two for Texas.
Abercrombie Historic Homer Gives Goldeyes Walk-Off Win, 3-2
Reggie Abercrombie set a franchise record for homeruns while giving the Winnipeg Goldeyes a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Abercrombie fouled off three pitches before hitting his 15th homer of the season to win it for the Goldeyes. That spoiled an outstanding outing by Tyler Herron, who went the distance for Sioux Falls.
American Association Notes
Reggie Abercrombie became the Winnipeg Goldeyes all-time homerun leader when he hit his 91st career homer on Saturday. He passes Josh Mazzola…The Goldeyes have won seven straight games. The Chicago Dogs and the Kansas City T-Bones have won five straight while the Sioux Falls Canaries have lost six straight games… Goldeyes left-hander will go for his league leading 14th win on Sunday…T-Bones starter Akeem Bostick struck out the first seven batters he faced on Saturday before leaving with an undisclosed injury…Texas AirHogs starter Zhang Tao has won three straight game. He has allowed two total runs in his last 20 innings.
