Giles Gem Shuts Down Saints
Charlie Gillies tossed six shutout innings as the Cleburne Railroaders defeated the Saints in St. Paul, 4-2. Zach Nehrir homered and drove in two to lead the offense. Dan Motl had four, including his third homer of the season for St. Paul.
RedHawks Hang on for 5-4 Victory
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead, then held on to preserve the one run victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs, 5-4. Leobaldo Pina had three hits and drove in two runs, while Chris Jacobs scored two runs for the RedHawks. Randolph Oduber had three hits and scored two runs for the Saltdogs.
Six Run First Propels Explorers, 8-3
Sebastian Zawada hit a grand slam as part of a six run first inning, helping the Sioux City Explorers to an 8-3 victory over the Gary Southshore RailCats. The Explorers led 2-1 before Zawada turned on a 1-1 offering, blasting his eighth homer of the year. Carlos Sierra earned the victory with six solid innings.
Mesa, Jr. Bullpen Blank Canaries, 4-0
Jose Mesa, Jr. tossed six shutout innings, combining with two relievers as the Kansas City T-Bones blanked the Sioux Falls Canaries, 4-0. Mesa allowed three hits while striking out 13. Alex Boshers took the loss despite going the distance.
Ventura Muzzles Dogs, 3-0
Angel Ventura tossed seven shutout innings, leading the Milwaukee Milkmen to a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Dogs. Jose Rosario blasted his sixth homer of the year, a two run shot in the seventh. The Dogs recorded just three total hits.
Ficociello Homer Helps Lift Goldeyes, 5-4
Dominic Ficociello hit a two run homer in the bottom of the seventh, putting the Winnipeg Goldeyes ahead for good as they would defeat the Texas AirHogs, 5-4. Joel Seddon tossed six outstanding innings for Winnipeg, allowing five hits and one run. Javion Randle had three hits for Texas. Victor Capellan earned his 20th save of the season.
American Association Notes
With Thursday night’s loss, the St. Paul Saints suffered their first series loss at home this season…The Lincoln Saltdogs have lost 10 straight games…David Olmeda-Barrera extended his hitting streak to 23 games. He is hitting .392 in that span…The Clebure Railroaders are the only team in the league who has not lost a game when leading entering the ninth. They are a perfect 31-0.
