American Association Daily Recap: May 23, 2019
In American Association Daily, Robert Pannier recaps the day’s action for May 23, 2019, including the Lincoln Saltdogs winning the 500th game in franchise history. Saltdogs Reach Historic Franchise Mark
Rain could not dampen the spirits of the Lincoln Saltdogs, as they won the 500th game in franchise history on Thursday night, downing the Cleburne Railroaders, 3-2. The rain shortened affair saw Nick Tepesch go all six innings to earn his second win of the season. Tepesch allowed two runs in six innings of work. The Saltdogs scored all of their runs in a three run, third inning.

RedHawks Sweep Double-Header from Milkmen
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Milwaukee Milkmen were finally able to get underway after rain washed out their game on Wednesday. That was good news for the RedHawks, who got six shutout innings from Sebastian Kessay to sweep the twin bill. Fargo-Moorhead scored two runs in the bottom of the first and that proved to be all the support that Kessay needed, as he allowed four hits while striking out five.
In the early game, the RedHawks fell behind by two in the top of the first, but came back with five in the bottom half of the inning. Milwaukee would add a run in the top of the second, but that was all the runs either team was able to score. Leobaldo Pina homered and drove in two.
RailCats Batter Explorers, 10-1
The Gary Southshore RailCats battered the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday night, scoring two in the first and four in the second on their way to a 10-1 win. Four RailCats had two hits apiece, including Colin Willis, who was 2-5 with a run and 3 RBI. Trevor Lubking won his second decision of the season by tossing six shutout innings.

Dogs Nip Saints in 10, 7-6
It was a wild first inning that saw the Chicago Dogs leave the frame leading the St. Paul Saints, 4-3. The Dogs would extend their lead to two before St. Paul added two in the sixth to tie the score. That sent the contest to extra innings where Tony Rosselli homered and Larry Balkwill added an insurance run. That proved to be critical as the Saints added a run in the bottom of the inning, but Chicago would hang on to win, 7-6. Rosselli homered three times in the contest, driving in five.

American Association Notes
Tony Rosselli homered three times on Thursday night, setting a Chicago Dogs franchise record. The Fort Worth Cats John Allen holds the single game record in the league, hitting four on August 16, 2008. The Texas AirHogs Stewart Ijames was the last player to hit three homers in a game, doing it last season when he accomplished the feat against the Kansas City T-Bones on July 20.
