Westphal No-Hits Milkmen Through Sixth
Luke Westphal tossed six no-hit innings against the Milwaukee Milkmen on Friday and the bullpen held on as the Chicago Dogs won 5-4. Tony Rosselli was a perfect 4-4 with 2 RBI and his fourth homerun of the season to lead the offense. Westphal allowed two walks and struck out a franchise record 12. Josh Goossen-Brown recorded his second save of the season.
Seven Run First Gives Saints Victory
The St. Paul Saints scored seven first inning runs thanks to two RBI by both Blake Schmit and Jeremy Martinez on their way to an 8-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. Nick Belzer, making his debut for St. Paul, tossed six shutout innings. Burt Reynolds had three hits.
Two Run Ninth Gives Railroaders 7-5 Victory
Nick Rotola drove in the winning run in the ninth, and Tyler Wilson earned the victory with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to give the Cleburne Railroaders a 7-5 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Kenny Meimersdorf had 2 hits and 3 runs scored for Cleburne.
Stewart Ijames Bomb Gives AirHogs 4-2 Win
The Texas AirHogs got a homer and three RBI on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Sean Stutzman tossed five solid innings for his first win of the year, and Travis Ballew threw four scoreless frames to earn his first save. The victory snapped the AirHogs three game losing streak.
Canaries Clip RailCats in 12
The Sioux Falls Canaries got seven one run innings from Keaton Steele and Kevin Taylor drove in the winning run in the top of the 12th as the Canaries downed the Gary Southshore RailCats, 2-1. Steele struck out nine in his first appearance against his old team. The Canaries bullpen tossed five, one-hit innings of relief. The victory was the fourth straight for Sioux Falls.
Kansas City-Winning PPD
The Kansas City T-Bones and the Winnipeg Goldeyes were rained out on Friday. The game will be made up as part of a double-header on Saturday.
American Association Notes
Luke Westphal set a Chicago Dogs record with 12 strikeouts on Friday night. That was impressive, but even more impressive is that in his two starts this season he has yet to yield a hit. Westphal has tossed 11.2 innings, walking 3 while striking out 15…The Milwaukee Milkmen losing streak reached four with their loss on Friday night…The Kansas City T-Bones were rained out again on Friday night. This is their third game this season that has been postponed.
