Explorers Pound AirHogs to Complete Double-Header Sweep
After winning a narrow 3-1 victory in Game 1, the Sioux City Explorers put up a season high 19 hits in an 18-3 victory over the Texas AirHogs in Game 2. The Sioux City pitching staff allowed five total hits in seven innings in Game 1. The Explorers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run double by Luke Bonfield. Tyler Falwell earned the victory with 1.1 innings of relief and Matt Pobereyko earned his third save of the season with a perfect ninth.
It was an entirely different contest in Game 2. Sioux City added three in the second, four in the third, and eight in the sixth as they rocked the AirHogs, 18-3. Jose Sermo drove in three and scored three runs as every Explorers player in the starting lineup had at least one hit.
Gunn Solid in Railroaders Victory, 4-3
Michael Gunn tossed six solid innings, allowing two runs in the Cleburne Railroaders 4-3 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Thursday night. Chase Simpson led the offense with his seventh homer of the year, plus three RBI. Simpson leads the American Association in both of those categories.
Five Run Second Helps RailCats Prevail
The Gary Southshore RailCats helped avoid a sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Thursday, thanks to a five run second inning. The 10-3 victory was led by Randy Santiesteban, who homered and drove in five. Lars Liguori earned the victory with six solid innings.
Milkmen Batter T-Bones to Earn First Series Victory
The Milwaukee Milkmen earned the first series victory in franchise history, taking two of three from the Kansas City T-Bones thanks to a 12-1 victory on Thursday evening. Nolan Earley homered and drove in four and Adam Walker added a homerun and three RBI to help propel the Milkmen to victory. Angel Venture earned the win with seven shutout innings.
