Wednesday was the opening of the American Association playoffs with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks winning a nail-biter over the St. Paul Saints and the Kansas City T-Bones outslugged the Sioux City Explorers, 12-8.

Pitching, Defense Leads RedHawks to Victory, 3-2
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks would score three early runs, then ride their pitching to a 3-2 victory over the St. Paul Saints in Game 1 of the North Division Championship series. Ryan Williams allowed two runs in six innings to earn the victory. Tim Colwell made the play of the game, squashing a possible Saints rally with an amazing throw from right field. Michael Lang was a perfect 3-3 for St. Paul.

T-Bones Outslug Explorers, 12-8
The Kansas City T-Bones looked like they would run away with Game 1 of the South Division Championship series, but the Sioux City Explorers would battle back before succumbing, 12-8. A seven run third inning staked Kansas City to a 7-1 lead. The Explorers would battle back to pull within one, but a three run sixth and a two run ninth clinched the victory. Daniel Nava had four hits and Stewart Ijames drove in three for the T-Bones. Sebastian Zawada and Jeremy Hazelbaker each drove in three for the Explorers
