Bruno Caboclo Returns to Mad Ants
Toronto Raptors rookie Bruno Caboclo has been re-assigned to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Caboclo will suit up tonight with the Mad Ants against the Grand Rapids Drive. He spent the 2013-2014 season playing for the Brazilian club Pinheiros, where he averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds in 17 games with the club. Despite the numbers, scouts noticed his possible upside. The Raptors decided to select Caboclo with the 20th overall pick in last summer’s NBA draft, and then placed him on their Summer League team. Caboclo made his NBA debut against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 21, 2014. In 12 minutes of play, he scored 8 points and grabbed one rebound along with one block. Afterwards, Caboclo was assigned to the Mad Ants on December 25, 2014, but was called back up on January 1, 2015 after just three games. Collectively in those three games, he played 39 minutes and produced 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The 6 foot 9 forward from Brazil has a 7 foot 7 wingspan and is only 19 years old. He has played organized basketball for six years (since he was 13) which is considered a relatively late start in terms of a professional prospect. However, he possesses all of the physical attributes and has the desire to develop his skills. Plus, he is still very young and could get taller. If he works on his shooting accuracy and consistency, he will be a versatile forward in the NBA sooner rather than later.
