Dogs LHP Brooks Gosswein Named Pitcher of the Week

On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Chicago Dogs left-hander Brooks Gosswein as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 9 of the 2024 season. The left-hander was impressive in his one start of the week, earning a complete-game victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries.

Gosswein made his one start on Wednesday, and it was a gem, as the left-hander allowed two unearned runs off six hits and five walks in a 6-2 victory. Gosswein was in command of this game from the start, holding Sioux Falls off the board through the first eight innings. He allowed a runner to reach in each of the first three innings, but eliminated two of those baserunners with double plays. In the fourth and fifth innings, he gave up a single and a walk, but came out of the frame unscathed each time. After giving up a leadoff single in the fifth, he did not allow another hit until the ninth, when a single and a throwing error allowed a run to score. The baserunner who reached on the error scored on a sacrifice fly. Gosswein finished out the contest, throwing 116 pitches.

Brooks Gosswein was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft by the Chicago White Sox. He reached AA-Birmingham last season, but was released following the 2023 campaign. In three minor league seasons, Gosswein went 4-16 with a 5.09 ERA. This season he has been solid for the Chicago Dogs, going 4-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 10 starts.

Gosswein is the second Chicago Dogs player to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. Joey Marciano earned the honors and Week 7.
