Chicago Dogs RHP Tyler Palm Named American Association Pitcher of the Month

Dogs RHP Tyler Palm Named May Pitcher of the Month
On Thursday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Chicago Dogs right-hander Tyler Palm as the American Association Pitcher of the Month for the month of May. The right-hander had an impressive month, going 4-0 with a 1.12 ERA in four starts.
Palm began the season by tossing five shutout innings against the Lincoln Saltdogs in the second game of the year. The right-hander allowed six hits and a walk while striking out four, helping lead his team to a 5-0 victory.
Six days later, the Chicago starter held the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to one earned run in five innings, leading the club to a 4-2 victory. He allowed six hits for the second straight start, walking four and striking out five.
On May 25, Palm led Chicago to the club’s third shutout of the season, tossing seven scoreless innings in a 12-0 victory. The right-hander allowed just one hit in the contest, walking four while striking out a season-high six. The only hit allowed was a two out single in the third. Palm then retired the next 10 batters seeing his streak end when he hit the leadoff batter to start the seventh.
In his final start of May, the Dogs ace allowed two earned runs in seven innings to the Winnipeg Goldeyes on the last day of May. For the third start of the month, he allowed six hits, this time walking one while striking out two. Chicago won that game, 3-2.
For the month, Tyler Palm finished a perfect 4-0, making him the first pitcher to reach the four win in the American Association this season. The right-hander tossed 24.0 innings, allowing 19 hits and 10 walks while striking out 17. His 1.13 ERA trails only teammate Trevor Lane. Palm has a 1.21 WHIP and opponents are hitting .224 against him.
This is the first season in the American Association for Tyler Palm. He was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Minnesota Twins organization in 2018. He reached AA-Wichita last season and has four years of minor league experience, going 9-17 with a 4.32 ERA in 99 career appearances.
