Cleburne Railroaders C Jaxx Groshans Named American Association Player of the Week

Railroaders C Jaxx Groshans Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Cleburne Railroaders catcher Jaxx Groshans as the Player of the Week for Week 3 of the 2024 season. Groshans had an impressive week, hitting .458 with four homers and 12 RBI.
Groshans began the week with a three-game series in Sioux Falls against the Canaries, where he hit .462. The week began with a 1-4 performance, where his one hit was a three-run homer that proved to be the difference in a 9-6 victory over Sioux Falls. The Railroaders catcher also had a walk in the contest. In the second contest, he went 2-4 with two RBI and a walk, and closed the series with three hits in five at bats, driving in his sixth run of the series.
Next, Cleburne returned home for a four-game set against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Groshans began the series as he had against Sioux Falls, going 1-4 with a two-run homer. He also walked in the contest. In Friday’s contest, the catcher came off the bench late in the game and drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run. He then had a huge performance on Saturday, going 3-3 with three runs scored, two home runs, and three RBI. He also walked twice. Groshans closed out the series with a 1-4 performance, going 5-11 in the series with three homers and six RBI. He also walked four times.
For the week, Jaxx Groshans hit .458 (11-24) with five runs scored, four home runs, and 12 RBI. He also walked six times. His batting average led the league, as did his 1.506 OPS, .958 slugging percentage, and he was second with a .548 on-base percentage. He was also tied for the league lead in home runs (4) and lead in RBI (12). The impressive performance raised his batting average from .136 to .304 and his on-base percentage increased by nearly 200 points.
Jaxx Groshans was taken in the fifth round of the 2019 draft by the Boston Red Sox. He spent three seasons in the minor leagues, reaching High-A Greenville in 2021. In three seasons in the Red Sox organization, Groshans hit .231 with 18 home runs and 81 RBI in 171 games. The catcher played for the Lake Country DockHounds last season where he hit .273 in 65 games, scoring 32 runs and driving in 32. He was traded to the Railroaders before the season began and is hitting .304 with five home runs and 14 RBI in the first 14 games.
