Railroaders OF Hill Alexander Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Cleburne Railroaders outfielder Hill Alexander as the Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2023 American Association season. Alexander had an amazing week, hitting .435 with four homers and 11 RBI.
All six games this week were against the Lake Country DockHounds in Wisconsin and Alexander was on fire, recording at least two hits in four of the games while only going hitless in one contest. His performance helped the team go 4-2 against the DockHounds, as the team scored at least five runs in all six contests.
The week started off well for Alexander, who went 2-4 with two home runs in the opener. In the second contest, the outfielder went hitless, going 0-4 but still driving in a run. He then went 1-3 with a double in the third game, adding a walk.
It was a solid but not spectacular start for the outfielder, but things changed quickly on Friday. Alexander went 2-4 with a run and a double in the fourth game of the series. He followed that up with a 2-4 performance on Saturday, doubling twice, scoring a run, and driving in two. Alexander had a huge day on Sunday, going 3-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and a career-high six RBI. His other hit was a double.
In six games, Hill Alexander went 10-23. He led the league in RBI (11), doubles (5), and home runs (4), and was tied for second in runs scored (7). He was also tops in slugging percentage (1.174) and OPS (1.674).
Hill Alexander was selected in the 28th round of the 2019 MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He spent three years in the Rays system, reaching AA-Montgomery last year where he appeared in 26 games. In three years in the minors, Alexander hit .266 with 24 homers and 109 RBI in 165 games. Last season, after being released by Tampa Bay, Alexander joined the Railroaders for the remaining 63 games, hitting .311 with 13 homers and 48 RBI. This season he is hitting .291 overall, with 11 home runs, 34 runs scored, and 33 RBI.
Alexander is the second Railroaders player to be chosen this season. Zach Nehrir won the award in Week 1.
