Game Recaps for Monday
Culbreth Leads Canaries to Series Victory
Ty Culbreth allowed two runs in seven innings, earning his first victory of the season, as the Sioux Falls Canaries rallied to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 3-2. The RailCats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Victor Nova hit his fifth home run of the season. The RailCats were rolling behind Chris Erwin, who kept Sioux Falls off the scoreboard through the first five innings.
However, Sioux Falls began to rally in the sixth. Trevor Achenbach drove home Welington Dotel to cut the deficit in half, and the Canaries took the lead for good when Darnell Sweeney hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, his sixth of the year. Culbreth left after seven and the Sioux Falls bullpen took over from there, tossing two scoreless innings. Charlie Hasty closed out the game for his third save of the season.
Erwin allowed one run in 5.2 innings. The RailCats had four total hits in the game. Achenbach had two hits for Sioux Falls.

Miller Muzzles Saltdogs
Jalen Miller tossed five shutout innings and the Kansas City Monarchs pitching staff held the Lincoln Saltdogs to just four hits, as the Monarchs defeated Lincoln, 2-1. Miller earned his third victory of the season, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five. Miller Hogan then tossed three scoreless frames. Alex Valdez came on in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
Josh Roeder started for the Saltdogs and pitched well. He gave up a run in the first on an RBI single by Jacob Robson and a solo home run to Micker Adolfo in the fifth. That would be all the runs that the Monarchs could score, as Roeder left after seven, allowing two runs on four hits. Lincoln finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth when Yanio Perez hit his second homer of the year. However, after walking the next batter, Valdez was able to close out the contest.
