Dogs Maul Goldeyes, 13-0
WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (47-36) lost 13-0 to the Chicago Dogs at Shaw Park on Thursday night.
The Dogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI double from Jordan Dean and a two-out, RBI single from Rey Gonzalez. Chicago made it 3-0 in the third when Dean drew a bases loaded walk.
In the top of the fifth, Gustavo Pierre doubled home a pair of runs, and the Dogs extended their lead to 7-0 on back-to-back two-out, RBI singles from Edwin Arroyo and Keon Barnum.
Chicago tacked on four more runs in the seventh. David Olmedo-Barrera hit a one-out, solo home run to right. Later in the inning, Victor Roache launched a three-run shot to left-centre.
Pierre led off the top of the eight with a home run down the left field line. Arroyo chipped in a two-out, RBI single that accounted for the game’s final run.
Jacob Dahlberg (7-6) picked up the win for the Dogs (48-34), pitching seven shutout innings on three hits. Dahlberg walked two and struck out four.
Joel Seddon (2-5) took the loss for the Goldeyes, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits in five innings. Seddon walked five and struck out four.
The game was delayed one hour and 11 minutes due to the Goldeyes experiencing travel delays from St. Paul, Minnesota.
Game two of the three-game series is Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Kevin Hilton (3-9, 4.57) faces former Major League right-hander Carlos Zambrano (2-0, 5.23). Advance tickets are on sale now by visiting www.goldeyes.com/tickets or by visiting the box office at Shaw Park.
