Dogs Re-Sign Star Infielder Edwin Arroyo
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Set to embark on his third season with the team, second baseman Edwin Arroyo has re-signed with the Chicago Dogs.
Arroyo formed an integral part of the Dogs’ inaugural roster in 2018, and he welcomed himself to Impact Field with a splash. The Puerto Rican infielder led the team by racking up 118 hits and hitting at a .325 clip, good for the sixth-best average in the American Association.
He followed his excellent rookie campaign by piecing together an efficient 2019 season in Rosemont. Arroyo started 93 games as the Dogs’ second baseman and struck out just 39 times, the fewest among regular starters. He posted a .291 average and a .367 on-base percentage, slugging two home runs and driving in 55 runs.
A native of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Arroyo tallied 29 multi-hit games last season. That included three four-hit performances, including a 4-for-5 evening with two RBI and two runs scored in a 13-0 mid-August win at Winnipeg.
Prior to his tenure in Chicago, Arroyo played in the Empire Professional Baseball League. The 29-year-old led the league with a .433 average in 20 games for the Old Orchard Beach Surge and Puerto Rico Islanders.
Arroyo played his college ball at both Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas and Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas.
