Early Deficit Too Much for Canaries to Overcome, 8-6
KANSAS CITY – The Sioux Falls Canaries wrapped their six-game road trip with an 8-6 loss in Kansas City Wednesday night. The Birds finish the road trip 4-2 and return home to face the Houston Apollos Friday at 7:05.
Logan Landon and Jabari Henry each went deep in the first inning to give the Birds a 2-0 lead. The homer was the third of the season for each. Henry has now gone deep in three of the last four games. He scored two runs.
Tyler Garkow (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Canaries. He allowed eight two-out runs in his third start of the year, six of them on a pair of three-run home runs by Ryan Grotjohn.
Dylan Baker earned the win on the mound for the Monarchs by limiting the Birds to two runs over six innings. Carlos Diaz picked up his second save of the season.by stranding two in the ninth. The Monarchs improved to 5-8 with the win.
The Canaries (8-6) left 13 on base in the game. Trey Michalczewski lined a two-RBI single to left in the eighth to bring the team within 8-6 after trailing 8-2. Angelo Altavilla finished with two hits and two stolen bases. The Canaries bullpen was perfect on the evening. Trevor Simms, Charlie Hasty and Robbie Gordon combined to retire nine straight in the sixth through the eighth.
