Game Recaps for Tuesday
East Wins All-Star Game
The Milwaukee Milkmen players put on quite a show in the American Association All-Star game, as Christian Young earned the victory, Peyton Gray came on to earn the save, and Bryan Torres was named the MVP as the East Division defeated the West, 4-2. Torres finished 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
The East took the lead in the bottom of the first when Torres led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a groundout by Josh Altmann. An inning later, Mark Karaviotis drilled a two-run homer to extend the lead to three.
Three East Division pitchers dominated the first three innings, allowing one hit while striking out five. However, the West was able to get on the board in the fourth against Gary SouthShore RailCats closer DJ Wilkenson. Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Evan Alexander led off with a walk, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to two.
The score remained that way until the seventh when Sioux Falls Canaries outfielder Darnell Sweeney hit an opposite field home run to cut the deficit to one.
The West was back in this contest, but Torres put the game out of reach in the eighth, slapping a single into right field, scoring Matt Bottcher. The Chicago Dogs infielder had singled to start the frame.
In the ninth, Gray came on to close out the contest. He struck out the final batter of the game to earn the save.
This was an incredible pitchers’ duel, as the teams combined for just seven hits and struck out 19 times in the contest. Torres was the only hitter to have more than one hit in the game.
