Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks RHP Colten Davis Named American Association Pitcher of the Month

RedHawks RHP Colten Davis Named August Pitcher of the Month
On Friday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks right-hander Colten Davis as the American Association Pitcher of the Month for August. Davis had an incredible month, going 4-0 with a 1.74 ERA in five starts.
The month did not get off to a great start for Davis, as he allowed four runs in four innings in a no decision to the Sioux City Explorers on August 3. The right-hander shut out Sioux City through the first two innings, but gave up four in the third. He left after four innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out one.
The right-hander quickly regrouped, dominating his next start, a 3-0 victory over the same Explorers. Davis tossed seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and five walks while striking out three. The RedHawks starter found himself in trouble several times in the contest, giving up two walks in the first, a double and a walk in the third, and a single and a walk in the fifth, but got out of each of those frames without giving up a run.
Next up was the Kansas City Monarchs, and Davis was spectacular, tossing six shutout innings. The right-hander gave up three hits and two walks while striking out four. He gave up a leadoff double in the bottom of the first, then retired six straight batters. Davis gave up a walk and a single in the third, but got a fly out to end the threat and retired 10 of the next 11 batters he faced.
Davis faced the Sioux City Explorers for the third time in the month on August 25, and continued his impressive run, tossing seven shutout innings, extending his scoreless streak to 21 straight innings. The right-hander allowed two hits and a walk while striking out eight. He retired the first eight batters of the game and only gave up two hits in the contest, both coming in the fourth inning. The RedHawks starter retired 10 straight to close out his evening.
The final start of the month was against the Lake Country DockHounds on August 31. Davis gave up two runs in seven innings to earn his fourth victory of the month. He allowed six hits and two walks while striking out six.
In August, Davis threw 31.0 innings, allowing 18 hits and 12 walks while striking out 22. He gave up just six earned runs. Opponents hit .167 against him.
Colten Davis is in his first professional season, and is making it an impressive one. He attended college at Texas-Rio Grande Valley where the right-hander went 12-9 with a 4.79 ERA in 36 starts and 13 relief appearances. He signed with the RedHawks and has made nine appearances for the club, including five starts. Davis is 7-0 with a 2.35 ERA, allowing 51 total baserunners in 46.0 innings.
