Five Game Losing Streak Puts New Jersey Jackals at .500, Week in Review June 12-18
Week in Review
It was a tough end to the week for the New Jersey Jackals, as the club has dropped five straight games. They began by winning two of three from the visiting Shikoku Island All-Star team, but then were swept on the road at Quebec before returning home to fall to Ottawa Thursday night. Overall that made for a 2-5 record this week.
The Jackals began with a 3-0 win over Shikoku Island. Isaac Pavlik tossed seven shutout innings in Game 1, striking out seven. Justin Trapp clubbed his second home run of the season, and Donnie Joseph earned his first save of the year. Joseph looked impressive early on, allowing no runs in 8.2 innings pitched so far this season.
In Game 2, New Jersey got another big pitching performance, this time from Brian Ernst, who allowed one run in 6 innings pitched for his second win of the season. Trapp delivered 2 hits, scored 2 runs and drove in another in the 6-1 win. Peter Mooney also had two hits and drove in his seventh run of the season.
In the final game of the series, Shikoku Island took a 3-0 lead, then held on for a 4-3 win. Three players had two hits for the Jackals, including Anthony Gomez, who had two RBI as well.
Onto Quebec went the Jackals, where they were swept by the home team. Game 1 was a close pitchers’ duel between John Walter and Derek Dubois, won 3-1 by the Capitales. Dubois and two relievers limited the Jackals to just five hits. In the second game, Karl Gelinas tossed a three-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over New Jersey. The final game of the series saw the Jackals jump out to a 3-0 lead, but the Capitales battled back with four unanswered runs to take the contest 4-3.
On Thursday, New Jersey returned home. The Champions scored two in the first, and led by as much as six before the Jackals rebounded with three-runs in the eighth to make it a close game. That was as close as it would get, however, as Ottawa won 7-4.
