FARGO, N.D. (June 13, 2021) – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over the Cleburne Railroaders on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
Cleburne (11-13) struck first on a two-out RBI single from Ramon Hernandez in the top of the first inning, plating Noah Vaughan to give the Railroaders a 1-0 lead.
After Garrett Alexander (2-3) held Fargo-Moorhead off the board through the first two innings, the RedHawks (16-9) picked up four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third. Leobaldo Pina got the scoring started with an RBI single, then Correlle Prime followed with a run-scoring double that tied the game at 2-2. Jordan George lifted a sacrifice fly to put Fargo-Moorhead in front 3-2, then Will Zimmerman added the final run of the inning with an RBI single of his own.
The Railroaders rallied with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Vaughan led off with an infield single, then Colton Pogue ripped a line drive into left-center field that got past a diving Alex Boxwell. The ball rolled to the warning track, allowing Vaughan to score and getting Pogue to third with an RBI triple. RedHawks starter Bret Helton (2-2) committed a balk two pitches later, scoring Pogue and pulling the Railroaders to within 4-3.
Fargo-Moorhead added single runs in the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings, respectively. Sam Dexter plated one with an RBI single, and a Bryan Saucedo wild pitch scored the final run for the RedHawks.
Blake Rogers picked up the save with a scoreless top of the ninth. Four RedHawks relievers retired all 12 men that they faced, as the last 14 Cleburne hitters failed to reach base. Helton picked up the win with five innings of work, allowing six hits and three runs, striking out five and walking three. Alexander took the loss pitching on short rest, surrendering four runs over four innings on six hits.
Vaughan led the way offensively for Cleburne, finishing 3-for-4.
The Railroaders are off on Monday as they travel back to Cleburne to begin a six-game homestand. Cleburne welcomes in the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the first of a three-game series on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:06 PM.
