Goldeyes Have No Answers for Herold in Shutout Loss
By Doug Greenwald, Winnipeg Goldeyes
OCONOMOWOC, WI – Lake Country DockHounds (7-13) starter Nick Herold (3-1) went eight shutout innings and struck out eight. He helped lead his club to a 6-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (8-12) on Saturday at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park. It was the second time the Goldeyes have been shutout this season. The club has lost five straight.
Everything was decided in the first inning when Lake Country plated four. Winnipeg starter Luis Ramirez (2-2) walked the first two batters and allowed a bunt single which loaded the bases with nobody out. With one out, DockHounds center fielder Thomas Jones doubled to left field to make it 2-0. Lake Country’s other runs in the first were an infield single by catcher Jaxx Groshans and a sacrifice fly for second baseman Blake Tiberi.
The DockHounds added two runs in the eighth on a homer by designated hitter Aaron Simmons (2) and a single by third baseman Luis Aviles, Jr.
Ramirez lasted six innings, issued six hits, four runs (all earned), he walked two and struck out six.
The only highlight for Winnipeg was a sixth inning single for third baseman Dayson Croes extending his hitting streak to 17 games.
The Goldeyes look to avoid a winless trip on Sunday afternoon at 1:35. Left-hander Tyler Jandron (1-1) and right-hander Austin Faith (0-1) are the probables for Winnipeg and Lake Country respectively.
Winnipeg returns home to Shaw Park Tuesday June, 6 against the Chicago Dogs.
