Goldeyes Late Surge Falls Short in Chicago
ROSEMONT, IL – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (31-27) lost 12-6 to the Chicago Dogs at Impact Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Chicago (39-19) took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first beginning with an RBI single from Ryan Lidge. KC Hobson followed with a two-run home run to left-centre. Stevie Wilkerson singled to right and scored from first on Grant Kay’s double to left-centre. Two batters later, Trenton Bauer hit a two-out single down the left field line that scored Kay.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lidge reached on an error with the bases loaded that scored Bauer from third. Wilkerson added a two-out, two-run single to centre, and the Dogs made it 9-0 on an RBI single through the left side from Anfernee Grier.
Michael Crouse drove in Chicago’s 10th run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI groundout. Lidge then hit a two-run home run to left-centre that pushed the lead to 12-0.
The Goldeyes got on the board in the top of the sixth. Raul Navarro and Max Murphy singled back-to-back with one out. David Washington ripped a single up the middle to score Navarro. Two batters later, Reggie Pruitt Jr. singled through the right side to chase home Murphy.
In the top of the eighth, the Goldeyes pulled within 12-6 on a two-run home run to right-centre from Washington and a two-run shot to left-centre from Deon Stafford Jr.
Chicago starter Jordan Kipper (6-2) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in six innings. Kipper walked one and struck out eight.
Landen Bourassa (2-2) started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing nine runs, six earned, on 13 hits in four innings. Bourassa walked one and struck out one.
Erasmo Pinales, Bryan Blanton, and Murphy each worked one scoreless inning of relief for the Goldeyes. Navarro has hit safely in 11 straight games.
