Goldeyes Roll Past Canaries
WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (52-47) beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-3 at Shaw Park on Sunday afternoon.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the first, Max Murphy singled to right-centre and stole second. After David Washington walked, Jacob Rhinesmith ripped a single through the right side to drive in Murphy with the game’s first run.
The Canaries (33-65) tied the game in the top of the second when Connor Blair led off with a home run to left-centre.
Winnipeg took the lead for good with a four-run bottom of the second. Singles from Kevin Lachance, Deon Stafford Jr., and Raul Navarro set up a three-run double down the right field line from Ian Sagdal. Murphy followed with an RBI single to left-centre.
Nick Gotta homered down the left field line leading off the top of the third to pull Sioux Falls within 5-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lachance led off with an infield single, and the Goldeyes stretched the lead to 7-2 on a two-run home run to left from Reggie Pruitt Jr.
Osvaldo Martinez’s two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh drove in the Canaries’ third and final run.
The Goldeyes re-extended the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out, RBI single from Navarro.
Goldeyes’ starter Freisis Adames (8-4) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits in five innings. Adames walked none and struck out six.
Canaries’ starter Joey Pulido (1-12) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings. Pulido walked one and struck out four.
Bryan Blanton, Will McAffer, and Tasker Strobel each worked a scoreless inning in relief of Adames. Lachance has hit safely in eight consecutive games.
The series and regular season finale is Monday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
