Goldeyes Tyler Hill, RedHawks Michael Tamburino Honored in Week 11
In American Association Daily, the Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association name their Pitcher and Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2019 American Association season. This week the Winnipeg Goldeyes Tyler Hill was selected as the Player of the Week after hitting .529 in five games. Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks right-hander Michael Tamburino was selected as the Pitcher of the Week after striking out 13 in eight innings while posting a 0.00 ERA.
Player of the Week – Week 11: Tyler Hill, Winnipeg Goldeyes
Since joining the Winnipeg Goldeyes, Tyler Hill has been nothing short of brilliant. This past week, the Goldeyes outfielder punctuated that statement, earning Player of the Week honors after hitting .529 in five games. Hill drove in seven, scored five runs, and added four runs.
Hill had hits in all five games this past week. Winnipeg began the second half of the season against the Texas AirHogs, and the outfielder opened the series with a 1-3 performance, scoring a run and driving in another. He would go 2-4 in the second game, scoring and driving in a run, and would close the series with 1-3 performance, scoring twice while plating two others. For the series, Hill was 4-10 with four runs, four RBI, and two walks.
Next, the Goldeyes welcomed the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Through the first two games of the series, Hill is 5-7 with a run and three RBI. He opened with a 3-4 performance and was 2-3 in Game 2. Game 3 will be Monday night.
Besides the .529 average, Tyler Hill posted a .565 on-base percentage and a 1.389 OPS in 23 total plate appearances. He added three doubles and a triple. He drove home at least one run in all five games.
Pitcher of the Week – Week 11: Michael Tamburino, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks
Michael Tamburino was selected as Pitcher of the Week. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks right-hander made one start, but made it a big one, blanking the Lincoln Saltdogs on just two hits thought eight innings, while striking out 13, a season high.
The June 24 start looked like it was going to get off on the wrong foot. After retiring the first two batters of the game, Tamburino gave up a single and a walk. Josh Mazzola then lined a 1-2 pitch up the middle for a base hit. Curt Smith attempted to score, but was thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw by Devan Ahart.
That proved to be the play of the game, as Michael Tamburino caught fire from that point. The Saltdogs would not allow another player to reach base, as the righty retired 21 straight batters. That included striking out two in the second, third, and fifth innings, and striking out the side in the eighth. The righty threw 120 pitches, 83 of which were strikes.
