Gotta Drives in Five to Help Canaries Earn Series Win
SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Canaries won the series vs. the Houston Apollos with a 16-7 victory Sunday at The Birdcage. The Birds will enjoy an off day Monday and resume the seven-game homestand with a three-game series vs. Cleburne starting at 7:05 pm on Tuesday.
Ty Culbreth (4-0) picked up another victory on the mound for the Canaries. Culbreth went seven innings, allowing eight hits and three runs (two earned). He struck out six Apollos. Houston starter Yosmel Naranjo (0-3) was credited with the loss after allowing eight hits and nine runs.
The Canaries continued their astounding offensive output. The Canaries racked up 60 runs and 63 hits in the four-game series vs. Houston (3-15). The series win was the fourth straight for Sioux Falls.
Left fielder Nick Gotta drove in five runs. His home run in the fifth highlighted an eight-run explosion that put the game out of reach. Gotta reached base four times. Trey Michalczewski piled up three base hits and an RBI. Mitch Glasser got on base four times in six plate appearances. He recorded two doubles and an RBI.
The Canaries (11-7) will take on the Railroaders (7-10) to open the three-game series Tuesday. RHP Tyler Garkow (1-1, 5.50 ERA) is expected to start for the Canaries. The Cleburne starter is TBA.
Tuesday night will be Groovy Tunes-day featuring the music of the Rolling Stones. Wednesday night will be Awesome 80’s Wednesday featuring scenes and characters from The Breakfast Club. Thursday night will be Mess with Texas Night. It will also be College Night and Thirsty Thursday at The Birdcage.
