Harris Hurls Goldeyes to Fourth Straight Win
WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (36-35) beat the Milwaukee Milkmen 6-4 at Shaw Park on Friday night.
Wes Darvill led off the bottom of the third with a double to left-centre. After Milkmen starter Ryan Kussmaul retired the next two hitters, Raul Navarro reached on an infield single to third. Logan Trowbridge’s throw to first bounced into foul territory allowing Darvill to score the game’s first run. Kevin Lachance followed with a two-run home run to left.
Dakota Conners singled to left leading off the bottom of the fourth and took third when Austin Rei doubled down the left field line. Tyler Hill’s sacrifice fly to right scored Conners, and the Goldeyes opened a 5-0 lead on a two-out double to right-centre from Max Murphy.
Rei doubled down the left field line with one out in the sixth and advanced to third when Tyler Hill reached on an infield single. Darvill drove in Rei with a groundball to first base.
The Milkmen (46-25) rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh on a three-run home run from Cole Sturgeon and a two-out, RBI infield single from Christ Conley. Nate Antone struck out Tony Rosselli to end the inning and strand the tying runs on base.
Antone and Donnie Hart combined on a scoreless top of the eighth. Hart then pitched a perfect top of the ninth to complete a five-out save in his Goldeyes’ debut.
Greg Harris (2-5) started for the Goldeyes and picked up the win with five shutout innings on three hits. Harris walked three and struck out seven.
Kussmaul (2-1) took the loss for Milwaukee, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits in seven innings. Kussmaul walked one and struck out seven.
Game two of the three-game series is Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. Eduard Reyes (5-7, 7.60) faces right-hander Matthew Solter (3-6, 4.13).
