Heartbreaking Loss on Sunday Ends Disappointing Series in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Edgar Corcino went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and six RBIs, but the ‘Dogs allowed two runs in the 10th inning in a 10-9 loss to the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field on Sunday evening.
Corcino’s six RBIs are the most for a Saltdog this year, but Lincoln (15-14) was walked off on a Chase Harris RBI single for the second time in three games.
Corcino opened the scoring with a three-run double in the 1st, but Sioux City (20-11) scored three in the 1st and five in the 2nd to take an 8-3 lead.
Corcino cut the deficit to three with a two-run homer in the 3rd, and added another with an RBI double in the 5th. Skyler Weber followed up with a two-run single to tie the game.
The ‘Dogs took a 9-8 lead on Justin Byrd’s RBI single in the 10th before the X’s scored twice – one unearned – to sweep the series.
Jake Hohensee tossed 3.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts, while Tyler Anderson, Carter Hope and Logan Lombana all worked one scoreless frame. James Pugliese struck out the side in the 9th, but was pegged for his first loss of the year in the 10th.
The ‘Dogs and X’s continue the home-and-home split with three games at Haymarket Park beginning Tuesday. First pitch time is set for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
