Johnathan Motley Named January’s G-League Player of the Month
Johnathan Motley, the Texas Legends’ center out of Baylor University, has been named as January’s NBA G-League Player of the Month for his stellar play and exciting highlight dunks. The 6-10, 230 pound Motley has played in 11 games this month averaging 22.6 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks. With Motley in the lineup, Texas has gone 9-2 in the past 11 games, which is the best span in the league.
Motley has set a career-high in rebounds grabbing 17 boards, which is also a season high for the Texas Legends team as a whole. He has also achieved career highs in assists and steals, with 6 in each category. In the month of January, he has tallied eight double-doubles in 11 games, and brings his season total of double-doubles up to 17.
Motley is currently a two-way contract player having played 26 games with the Texas Legends and being able to spend time with their NBA affiliate Dallas Mavericks. He is a Houston native that has been able to stay relatively close to home as he pursues his professional basketball dreams. With his athleticism and budding basketball IQ, he should develop into a solid big man for this team and at the next level.
