Ryan Grotjohn Given PURE Performance Player Honors

The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association announced that Kansas City Monarchs infielder Ryan Grotjohn has been named the PURE Performance Player of the Week for Week 13 of the 2021 American Association season. Grotjohn led the American Association with a .520 batting average in six games.

The Kansas City Monarchs began the week with a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers. Grotjohn started the series going 2-3 with a run and a walk in a 3-2 victory. The next night, he was 2-2 with a double and a walk, and closed the series with a huge performance, going 5-7 with a double and four runs driven in in a 16-3 Monarchs victory. In the three-game set, Grotjohn went 9-14 with a run, two doubles, and four RBI.

The team then traveled to Chicago, where Grotjohn began the series going 2-5 with a homerun and two runs driven in. He went 1-4 in each of the final two contests of the series, driving in a run on Sunday. The Kansas City infielder went 4-13 the series with a run and three RBI.

For the week, Ryan Grotjohn went 13-25 with two runs scored, two doubles, a homer, and seven runs driven in. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch.

For earning PURE Performance Player of the Week, Ryan Grotjohn will receive a check for $100 from PURE. Grotjohn becomes the first Monarchs player to earn Player of the Week honors. Right-hander Cody Mincey was named the PURE Performance Pitcher of the Week in Week 6
