Justin Donatella Given PURE Performance Pitcher Honors

The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association announced that Kansas City Monarchs right-hander Justin Donatella was named as the PURE Performance Pitcher of the Week for Week 14 of the American Association season. Donatella made one start this week, tossing a two-hit shutout.

Justin Donatella tossed an absolute gem against the Sioux City Explorers on August 19. The right-hander went the distance, moving his record to 4-0.

Donatella began the contest by retiring the first nine batters he faced. He then gave up a leadoff single in the fourth, but got a fielder’s choice, a caught stealing, and a ground out to deny Sioux City any opportunity. The right-hander allowed a one-out hit in the sixth, and that would be the only other blemish on this night. He finished by retiring 10 of the last 11 batters he faced, with an error allowing the only other runner to reach.

Justin Donatella finished with two hits and one walk allowed. He struck out nine including three of the final six outs of the game. Of his 101 pitches, 72 went for strikes.

For earning PURE Performance Pitcher of the Week, Justin Donatella will receive a check for $100 from PURE. This is the second time that a Kansas City Monarchs pitcher has received PURE Performance pitching honors this season. Cody Mincey won the award back in Week 6.
