Keenan Gem Gives Saltdogs Double-Header Split
FRANKLIN, Wisconsin – The Lincoln Saltdogs and Milwaukee Milkmen finished two games Wednesday, with Milwaukee winning 6-5 in 10 innings in Game 1 before the ‘Dogs took the finale and the series with a 6-2 win in Game 2.
GAME 1
After the game was suspended due to rain with Milwaukee leading 3-1 in the 3rd inning Tuesday night, the teams picked things up Wednesday afternoon. Milwaukee won, 6-5, in 10 innings after Bryan Torres hit a walk-off single in Lincoln’s first extra-innings game of the year.
The ‘Dogs tied the game with two runs in the 5th before Milwaukee regained the lead with two in the 6th.
In the 7th, Matt Goodheart worked a bases-loaded walk before Patrick Caulfield tied the game on a fielder’s choice.
In the 10th inning, Goodheart singled on the first pitch of the frame to move the courtesy runner Dotel to 3rd. But an out at home and a double play ended the inning, and Torres hit a game-winning single with two outs to even the series.
GAME 2
Eddy Martinez hit a two-run double, Zach Keenan allowed two runs in six-plus innings, and the ‘Dogs took the series with a 6-2 win in the finale.
Lincoln (25-23) opened the scoring on a squeeze bunt from Bobby Barnard that scored Hunter Clanin in the 1st inning. The ‘Dogs added to the lead with Welington Dotel’s RBI single in the 5th. Matt Goodheart then drove in Josh Altmann before Martinez’s double made it 5-0.
Altmann doubled in Caulfield to make it 6-0 in the 6th before Milwaukee’s Keon Barnum hit a two-run double in the bottom-half of the inning.
Milwaukee (22-26) put the first two men on in the 7th with Keenan in search of his first complete game, but Steffon Moore worked the final three outs to earn his sixth save and help the ‘Dogs win the series.
Lincoln finishes the six-game trip in Fargo and Milwaukee 3-3, and will now return home for a series against Kansas City beginning Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage will start at 6:35 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
