Laredo Lemurs Week in Review, June 8-14, 2015
Week in Review
The Laredo Lemurs got the week off on the right foot by taking two of three in Wichita, but then came home to drop two of three to the Kansas City T-Bones.
After struggling against the Wichita Wingnuts much of last season, the Laredo Lemurs were happy to take two of three games from their divisions rivals in Wichita. In the first game of the series Omar Bencomo returned to the city where he had been dealt from four-days earlier and held the Wingnuts to 7 hits over 8 innings to earn his second win of the season. Abel Nieves added three hits against his former team, and Kevin Taylor chipped in three hits of his own and scored two runs.
In the second game the Wingnuts battered the Laredo pitching staff for 14 runs on 18 hits, to down the Lemurs 14-7. Despite the loss, seven Laredo players had two hits, including two from Tony Delmonico who homered for the second straight night.
Greg Holle tossed a five-hit complete game in the rubber match of the series, allowing just one run and striking out five in the 6-1 victory. That was Holle’s first win of the season. Jimmy Mojica, Dvontrey Richardson and Byron Wiley each had three hits in the game.
Onto face Kansas City at home went the Lemurs, where they dropped the first two games of the series to the T-Bones. Blake Holovach allowed two unearned runs to the Lemurs in the first game, an 8-2 Kansas City win. The second game saw Robert Doran toss six shutout innings as the visitors downed Laredo 3-0.
The final game of the series saw the Laredo Lemurs get a little outstanding pitching of their own, as Bencomo tossed eight shutout innings for his third win of the season. The 4-0 win saw Delmonico go 2-4 with his sixth home run of the season, tied for the American Association lead.

Who’s Hot
You can’t argue with the job Omar Bencomo has done after being acquired from the Wichita Wingnuts. The left-hander won both his starts, and pitched eight innings in each appearance. He allowed just 12 hits and 1 walk in 16 innings pitched, while striking out 9. Most impressive was the one run he allowed in that span.
Transactions
