JACKSON, TN – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (5-10) lost 9-7 to the Milwaukee Milkmen at The Ballpark at Jackson on Friday night.

Milwaukee (8-7) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. Logan Trowbridge drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored two batters later on a David Washington RBI single to right-centre. After Washington took second on a throw to the plate, Christian Correa hit an RBI double to left. Aaron Hill capped the rally with a two-out, two-run home run to right-centre.

The Goldeyes answered back in the bottom half. Michael Gulino walked leading off and went to third when Darren Seferina doubled into the right field corner. Two batters later, Kyle Martin doubled down the right field line to drive in both runners and cut the Milkmen lead to 4-2. It was Martin’s 500th career base hit.

Milwaukee re-extended the lead with a three-run top of the fourth. Anibal Sierra doubled down the left field line leading off. Two batters later, Trowbridge reached on an infield single, setting up a two-run double to left-centre from Adam Brett Walker. Washington followed with an RBI double to left-centre that made it 7-2 Milkmen.

Christ Conley opened the top of the fifth with a solo homer to right, while Tony Rosselli’s RBI single in the top of the sixth stretched the lead to 9-2.

The Goldeyes pulled within 9-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Martin drew a bases loaded walk. Max Murphy added an RBI fielder’s choice.

In the bottom of the ninth, Raul Navarro and Martin opened the inning with walks. A Murphy lineout to right advanced Navarro to third, and the Goldeyes sliced the deficit to 9-5 when Tyler Hill’s groundball to shortstop resulted in a run-scoring error. With the Goldeyes down to their final out, Kevin Lachance doubled down the left field line to score Martin and Hill, pulling Winnipeg within 9-7 and bringing the tying run to the plate. Milwaukee reliever Karch Kowalczyk recovered and retired Dakota Conners on a comebacker to end the game.

Eduard Reyes (1-2) started for Winnipeg and took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in three and one-third innings. Reyes walked four and struck out two.

Ryan Boyer (1-0) was credited with the win in his professional debut, pitching three scoreless innings of relief.

Nate Pawelczyk started for the Milkmen and took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on two hits in three innings. Pawelczyk walked three and struck out two.

Pete Perez pitched three and one-third innings of extended relief for the Goldeyes and allowed one unearned run.

The three-game series concludes with a split double header on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. while the nightcap is set for 7:05 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
