Leavens 2 TDs Not Enough Against Tommies, 71-14
Connor Leavens threw for two first half scores for Hamline’s football team in a 74-14 loss to nationally ranked St. Thomas Saturday at Klas Field.
The Pipers had 221 yards of offense against the Tommies and held an early 7-6 lead before UST rallied.
A Monty Stenroos interception (plus a 27 yard return) gave HU the ball at UST 31 midway in the opening quarter. On third down, Leavens found Tanner Lunceford for a 25 yard score. Riley Bakken’s extra point gave the Pipers the lead. UST went back ahead 19-7 by period’s end and extended it in the second quarter with five scores. Late in that session, Leavins spotted Triston Thomas for a 30 yard score. The junior went 9-for-20 for 138 yards in the half. Manny Moton took his spot behind the center in the second half.
Terrell Jones rushed for 30 yards. including an 18 yard burst. Lunceford (pictured) caught five passes for 74 yards. In addition to his interception, Stenroos had 1.5 tackles for loss and nine total tackles.
The Pipers are now 1-2 overall, 0-1 in the MIAC. They host Concordia Saturday, September 28. Game time at Klas Field is 1:00 p.m.
