Milkmen Dominate Canaries in Series Opener
SIOUX FALLS – The Sioux Falls Canaries (13-12) fell in the first game of the series against the Milwaukee Milkmen by a final score of 8-2 Tuesday night at The Birdcage. The Birds will play the Milkmen on Wednesday at 12:05 PM and Thursday at 7:05 PM to close the series.
Angel Ventura (2-3) was credited with the loss. Ventura allowed seven hits and four runs and struck out four Milkmen in six innings. The Canaries as a staff recorded nine strikeouts. Ryan Boyer (3-0) was credited with the win. Boyer allowed three hits and zero runs and struck out six. The Milkmen staff recorded 15 strikeouts.
The Birds racked up eight hits in the first game of the series. Nick Gotta continued his hot streak and recorded three hits and scored one run. Wyatt Ulrich recorded two hits, an RBI and scored. Logan Landon recorded two base hits and an RBI.
Gotta has now reached base in 13 of his last 14 plate appearances. The infielder was named the Minor League Sports Report Player of the Week for the week of June 6.
Tomorrow’s pitching showdown will be headlined by LHP David Holmberg (2-2, 3.64 ERA), who will start for Milwaukee and RHP Eddie Medina (1-2, 8.38 ERA), who will start for Sioux Falls.
