Franklin, WI. — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks walk away victorious after a defensive battle against the Milkmen.
The first inning of Saturday’s match-up was quiet offensively on both sides. But, the RedHawks got hot in the bottom of the second inning when catcher Kevin Krause hit his first triple of the season, followed by a home run from Jordan George giving Fargo-Moorhead a two run lead.
Milwaukee would not respond with a run of their own until the top of the fourth inning. Leading off was Christian Correa who walked, followed by Trey Martin who hit a single. Putting the pair in scoring position was Aaron Hill who hit a productive fly ball. Correa came home on a fielder’s choice closing the RedHawks lead to one run.
Coming in clutch in the top of the fifth inning was American Association Batter of the Month Adam Brett Walker II, hitting a triple off the wall and scoring Anibal Sierra who walked in an earlier at bat.
Tensions arose in the top of the sixth inning, after the home plate umpire called strike three on a full count to Hill. The Milkmen second baseman felt the pitch was a ball and shared his passion with the ump before being ejected, prompting a thrown helmet.
Derek Reddy replaced Hill at second base going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Solter stayed in through the beginning of the inning, but was taken out after John Silviano hit a two run RBI. Zach Hartman took over and the inning ended 4-2 RedHawks.
The Milkmen struck early in the top of the eighth inning, Martin hit a single and Reddy walked prompting a pitching change Ryan Flores took over striking out the side, but not before throwing a wild pitch to score Martin.
Despite their strong efforts the Milkmen were unable to score more runs and the game ended 4-3 RedHawks.
