Offensive Woes Continue in Loss to Goldeyes

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Ryan Long tied a franchise record with four walks, but the Saltdogs did not have an extra-base hit in a 6-1 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.
Long, with Lincoln’s first four-walk game since Justin Byrd drew four against Cleburne on Aug. 27, 2021, had four of Lincoln’s seven walks, but Lincoln (20-18) lost a fourth consecutive game and fifth straight at Haymarket Park.
The Goldeyes (22-17) opened the scoring on Max Murphy’s two-run homer in the 1st.
J.R. DiSarcina scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1 in the 3rd, but Eric Rivera scored on a wild pitch to restore the two-run lead in the 3rd.
Later in the inning, Ian Sagdal drove in two with a single and David Washington made it 6-1 with a run-scoring hit.
Randy Norris went 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk, and now has hits in 13 of his last 14 games. Welington Dotel had a single and a walk, and Eddy Martinez worked a walk.
Zach Keenan allowed six runs in five innings, while Carter Hope, Jesse Stallings, Jonathan Cheshire and Steffon Moore combined to pitch four scoreless innings in relief.
The ‘Dogs were swept at home for the first time in 2022, and the second time overall.
Lincoln continues a seven-game home stand with a four-game series beginning Monday against the Kane County Cougars. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
