Pike Limits Explorers, RedHawks Win 9-2
Sioux City, IA – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took the three game series from the Sioux City Explorers with a win on Sunday afternoon by the score of 9-2.
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings of play before Fargo opened up the scoring in the fourth. Back to back base hits opened up the frame, an RBI double from Correlle Prime, his fifth RBI in the series. And a ground out from by Brian Olson scored TJ Bennett to make it 2-0.
Tim Colwell crushed a solo home run off of his former team in the fifth and then Fargo doubled they’re 3-0 lead in the sixth. Bennett lead off the inning with a solo blast. A double from Leobaldo Pina and a single from Prime put runners at second and third. Olson added another RBI with a sac fly to center and a double from Brennan Metzger made it 6-0 Fargo.
All the runs were charged to Max Duval (1-4) who took the loss for Sioux City as he went five and two-thirds innings, allowing the six runs on twelve hits, and striking out five.
On the other end Tyler Pike handled the Explorers lineup in his five innings on the mound. Keeping the X’s off the score board while allowing only two hits.
Sioux City would tack on a couple of runs in the seventh when Nate Samson singled and Dexture McCall doubled. A ground out scored Samson and Luke Bonfield singled to score McCall and make it 6-2.
But Fargo added three more runs in the ninth to put the game away. Both Devan Ahart and Chris Jacobs drove in runs with each of them now driving home 20 runs this season.
The Explorers will now begin a four game series with the Lincoln Saltdogs on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 7:12 pm.
