Railroaders Fall to Goldeyes in Marathon Affair, 4-2
CLEBURNE, Tex. (June 15, 2021) – The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored two runs in the top of the 14th inning for a 4-2 win over the Cleburne Railroaders on Tuesday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station.
Sonny Ulliana provided the eventual winning run in the 14th with a sacrifice fly that broke the deadlock, then Tyler Hill followed with a bloop double that produced the final margin.
The Railroaders (11-14) trailed 2-0 until the bottom of the eighth, when they scratched across a pair of runs on an RBI single from Alay Lago and a sacrifice fly from Ramon Hernandez. Cleburne had an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the ninth with runners on the corners and one out, but an attempted squeeze play yielded an out at the plate, and a fly out ended the inning.
The game remained tied 2-2 thanks to tremendous work from both bullpens. Cleburne’s bullpen fired ten consecutive zeroes, while Winnipeg (9-14) got scoreless work from Mike Webb, Jake Polancic, Christian James and Nate Antone. James (2-2) ultimately picked up the win with a zero in the bottom of the thirteenth, while Antone picked up his first save of the year by pitching around a pair of baserunners in the 14th.
Taylor Wright (0-2) was tagged with a tough-luck loss, working four shutout frames before surrendering the two runs in the top of the 14th. Michael Krauza, Alex Fishberg, Bryan Saucedo and Kyle Chavez did not allow a run, combining for six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
The Goldeyes took the 2-0 lead on a pair of RBI groundouts, one from Wes Darvill in the second inning and another from Darren Seferina in the third. Both runs came against Cleburne starter Emerson Martinez, who tossed three innings in his first Railroaders start. Goldeyes starter Jorge Gonzalez did not allow a hit until the sixth, striking out a season-high six batters.
The Railroaders and Goldeyes continue the series on Wednesday at 7:06 PM. Left-hander Austin Fairchild (1-2, 3.80) starts for Cleburne, while Winnipeg has not yet announced their starter.
