RedHawks to Retire Jersey of All-Time Great Doug Simunic
Fargo-Moorhead, ND – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks announced on Tuesday that they will retire the jersey number of former Manager Doug Simunic on June 9, 2023. Simunic is one of the greatest managers in the history of independent baseball, trailing only Chicago Dogs skipper Butch Hobson in all-time victories as a manager.
Simunic spent nine years in the minors, reaching AAA-Charleston (Cleveland Indians) in 1982 and spent three seasons at AAA before hanging up the cleats as a player. In 1993, Simunic joined the newly formed Northern League as the manager of Rochester and moved to the Winnipeg Goldeyes a season later. In 1996, the skipper took over the RedHawks, leading the club to five titles (1998, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010).
Simunic left the RedHawks in the 2017, recording nearly 1300 career victories.
