Roache, Duncan Receive American Association Week 3 Honors
American Association Daily provides insights, features, and recaps of the action from around the American Association of Professional Baseball League, as well as player and coaching profiles and transactions. In today’s edition of American Association Daily, the Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association name Chicago Dogs outfielder Victor Roache as Player of the Week and Winnipeg Goldeyes right-hander Frank Duncan as Pitcher of the Week.
Player of the Week: Victor Roache, Chicago Dogs
The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association selected Chicago Dogs outfielder Victor Roache as the Player of the Week from July 20-26. Roache had a monster week, hitting .476 with four homers and four RBI in the six games against hub rival Milwaukee.
It was a consistent week for the Dogs’ superstar. He recorded hits in all six games, starting with a 1-3 performance to begin the week. He scored a run and drove in a run, hitting his second homer of the season, in a 3-2 victory over the Milkmen. The next night he went 2-4 with a run and an RBI. He also homered in that contest, as he did in the final game of the series as well. In the three-game set, Roache went 4-11 with three runs scored, three homers, and three RBI.
The two teams then traveled down the interstate to Chicago to continue the rivalry. Roache seemed to get better with each contest, going 1-3 in the opener, then recording a 2-4 performance on Saturday, before going 3-3 in the finale. The Dogs’ star finished 6-10 with three runs scored, a homer and an RBI.
For the week, Roache finished 10-21 with six runs scored, a double, four homers, and four RBI. His .476 batting average was the second best during the week. He was first in slugging percentage (1.095), third in on-base percentage (.476), and first in OPS (1.571).
Roache is the first Chicago Dogs player to receive weekly honors this season.
Pitcher of the Week: Frank Duncan, Winnipeg Goldeyes
The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association selected Winnipeg Goldeyes starter Frank Duncan as the Pitcher of the Week for July 20-26. The right-hander was absolutely brilliant in his two starts, allowing no runs in 14.0 innings pitched.
Duncan has been a RedHawks killer this season. Both of his starts were against Fargo-Moorhead and he was brilliant in both, allowing no runs in each start. On July 21, the right-hander earned the victory in a 5-0 win over the RedHawks. He allowed five hits and a walk, striking out six. Duncan did not allow more than one base runner in any inning. Duncan threw 90 pitches, 63 of which were strikes.
On Sunday, the Goldeyes starter was just as impressive, allowing six hits in seven shutout innings. He struck out five. Of his 93 pitches, 70 were for strikes.
In 14.0 innings, Duncan allowed 11 hits and a walk. He struck out 11. The Winnipeg starter has now faced the RedHawks four times this season and has allowed no runs in three of those starts.
Duncan is the second Goldeyes’ pitcher to receive honors this season. Mitch Lambson was named the top pitcher in Week 1.
