Robbie Beydoun Corrals Stampede in Black Hawks 5-2 Victory
The Sioux Falls Stampede returned home Saturday night after dominating Cedar Rapids the night before. The team was looking to open with their third straight victory, but Waterloo Black Hawks goalie Robbie Beydoun had other ideas. He stopped 31 of 33 shots Saturday, and Emil Ohrvall scored two goals to lead the Black Hawks to the 5-2 victory.
The first period was a tight affair that saw the frame end with the score tied at one. It was a scoreless tie for the first 14 minutes of the contest, but the Stampede would take the lead on the power-play. It was Johnson and Johnson that gave them the lead. Jake Johnson sent Max Johnson down the right wing with a great outlet pass. He fired the shot that Beydoun got a piece of, but it trickled off of his glove and into the net to give Sioux Falls their third straight game where they led first.

With 2:44 left in the period, Austin Albrecht took a tripping penalty and Waterloo made them pay. Stampede goalie Jeremy Swayman delivered a couple of big saves early in the man advantage, but the Black Hawks would finally break through. Michael Ferrandino made a great pass across the slot to Ohrvall who was alone in the right faceoff circle. He fired a one timer that went just over the glove of the Sioux Falls goalie to tie the score.
The Black Hawks had dominated the first period, outshooting the Stampede 16-8, but left the period tied. They would take the lead in the second and not relinquish it, however.
Kevin Charyszyn got the scoring started when he gave Waterloo the lead 3:35 into period. With the score tied the puck was loose in the neutral zone and eventually found its way onto the stick of Charyszyn. He carried it into the Sioux Falls end and wristed the puck just under the crossbar to put the Black Hawks on top.
Just 1:42 later Waterloo extended the lead to two. Jake Ryczek made a great pass out of his own end and found a streaking Nick Swaney. He skated in and blasted a shot under the crossbar for the score and it was 3-1.

The Stampede came out of the break looking to get back on the scoreboard, but Beydoun delivered two huge saves early on. They were putting a great deal of pressure on the Black Hawks and eventually that drew a penalty from Mikey Anderson. This was a great opportunity for Sioux Falls to cut the deficit to one, but it was the Black Hawks who would take advantage. Shane Bowers was skating down the left wing. Nick Swaney made a great pass across the ice that Bowers tipped in to make it 4-1.
Sioux Falls would cut the deficit back to two a little less than two minutes later when Jack Doremus jammed a loose puck under the pads of the Waterloo goalie to make it 4-2. It was his second goal of the year.
At 11:54 it would be Ohrvall who would make the lead three-goals again. Bowers made a great pass to the Black Hawks forward, who simply had to redirect it into the net to make it 5-2. That would be the final.
Ferrandino had two assists, and Swaney and Bowers each had a goal and an assist for the Black Hawks.
The next contest for the Sioux Falls Stampede (2-1-0-0) will be Friday night in Omaha. Game time is 7:05.
