Saltdogs Tamed in Extra Innings, 4-3
LINCOLN, Nebraska – Forrestt Allday went 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored, but the ‘Dogs let an early lead get away in a 4-3, 11-inning loss to the Sioux City Explorers on Wednesday night at Haymarket Park.
The ‘Dogs left 13 runners on, including a pair in the 9th, before the X’s scored on Adam Sasser’s RBI fielder’s choice in the 11th.
The ‘Dogs opened the scoring on Curt Smith’s two-run single in the 1st inning before the X’s got a run back on Sebastian Zawada’s RBI single in the 5th.
Lincoln answered with Josh Mazzola’s RBI single in the bottom of the 5th, and the X’s tied things with a two-out rally in the 6th after Jeremy Hazelbaker and Justin Felix walked to set up consecutive RBI singles from Drew Stankiewicz and Dexture McCall.
‘Dogs starter Ricky Knapp gave up three runs on just one hit with five walks and two strikeouts over 5.2 innings, and X’s starter Eric Karch allowed three runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings.
The X’s have now won 12 consecutive games – the longest stretch in the American Association this season.
