Phillips Dominates in Debut
Aaron Phillips tossed seven shutout innings in his debut for the Gary SouthShore RailCats, as he combined with two relievers to shutout the Kane County Cougars, 1-0. Phillips allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out four. Tasker Strobel came on in the ninth to close out the contest for his eighth save of the season. Michael Woodworth and Billy Cooke each had two hits for the RailCats. Woodworth scored the only run of the game, opening the contest with a double, and scored when Cooke followed with a double of his own.
That spoiled an impressive performance by Josh Tols, who allowed one run in six innings. Gavin LaValley had two hits for the Cougars.

Adcock Shines as Explorers Down RedHawks
Brett Adcock allowed one run in six innings to lead the Sioux City Explorers to a 4-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Adcock allowed two hits and three walks while striking out five. Nick Franklin continues to shine since being acquired by Sioux City, going 2-4, including hitting his first homerun in and Explorers’ uniform. L.T. Tolbert also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
A three-run seventh inning proved the Explorers earned the victory. Jose Sermo gave his team the lead for good with a bases loaded walk, and Tolbert followed with a two-run single.
That spoiled a solid performance by Bret Helton, who allowed one run in six innings, striking out nine. Alex Boxwell and Nick Novak each had two hits.

Monarchs Sweep Double-Header from Canaries
Morgan McCullough shined in both halves of the double-header as the Kansas City Monarchs swept the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday. In the first contest, McCullough went 3-4 with two hits and three RBI, including hitting his 13th homerun of the season. Kansas City scored single runs in the first and third and added three in the fourth on their way to the 5-3 win. Justin Donatella shined, allowing one run in five innings.
Sioux Falls got two hits from both Wyatt Ulrich and Zane Gurwitz. Joey Wagman went the distance for Sioux Falls, allowing five runs.
In the second contest, Ibandel Isabel homered twice and drove in three to lead the Monarchs to a 7-3 victory. Kansas City got things going in the first, as McCullough scored on a Charcer Burks double. Burks came home on a Gabriel Guerrero single, and Isabel capped off the frame with a two-run blast. Darnell Sweeney extended the lead with a two-run homer in the fourth and Isabel added his second homerun of the game, a solo shot in the fifth. That was more than enough support for Keyvius Sampson, who earned his fourth victory of the season.
Kris Regan struggled in his return to the diamond, allowing seven runs in five innings. Angelo Altavilla hit a three-run homer for the Canaries.

Dogs, Goldeyes Split Double-Header
The Winnipeg Goldeyes finished off a suspended game with a 9-5 victory over the Chicago Dogs, but then fell in the regularly scheduled contest, 4-1. The August 12 contest between Winnipeg and Chicago had been suspended heading into the ninth, but the Goldeyes added an additional run. Chicago attempted to battle back in the bottom half of the inning, but Donnie Hart closed the door.
Kyle Martin finished 2-5 with a run and two RBI. That included two doubles. Brennan Metzger had four hits for Chicago.
In the regularly scheduled contest, the Dogs scored four unanswered runs on their way to a 4-1 victory. With a run in the first in two in the second, Chicago took a commanding lead as Jordan Kipper tossed seven shutout innings to earn his 11th victory of the season and fifth in the month of August. Kipper allowed two hits and no walks while striking out four. Jeff Kinley came on to retire the final five batters of the game for his 17th save of the season. Grant Kay had the big bat for Chicago, hitting a two-run single in the second and a run scoring single in the sixth.

Saltdogs Prevail in 11
The Lincoln Saltdogs jumped out to an 8-4 lead only to watch the Milwaukee Milkmen rallied to tie the score. However, Lincoln would win in dramatic fashion on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning to earn a 10-9 victory. The Saltdogs trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, but scored three runs in the frame and added three more in the sixth to take the lead. However, Milwaukee battled back with three in the top of the seventh and tied the score in the top of the ninth against closer James Pugliese.
Milwaukee looked like they had earned the victory when they scored a run in the top of the 10th, but the Saltdogs tied the score with a run in the bottom half of the frame. That set up the dramatic 11th, where Ryan Long delivered a sacrifice fly to drive home the winning run.
Long finished with two hits and two RBI. That included hitting his 17th homerun of the season, one of four hits on the day by Lincoln. Josh Altmann added a two-run blast, and Edgar Corcino hit a three-run shot.
Adam Brett Walker II hit his 30th homerun of the season, one of three home runs hit by the Milkmen. Walker, Logan Trowbridge, Mikey Reynolds, and Will Kengor each had three hits for Milwaukee.

Peterson Homers Again in Railroaders Victory
D.J. Peterson homered for the fifth straight game as the Cleburne Railroaders went on to defeat the Houston Apollos, 12-4. Cleburne scored runs in each of the first five innings, including three in the first. Ozzie Martinez had a huge day for Cleburne, going 4-5 with four runs scored and an RBI. Zach Nehrir also had four hits and drove in a pair of runs. Ramon Hernandez had three hits, including his 21st homerun of the season.
William Salas continues to shine for Houston, going 2-5. Aaron Takacs reached base three times.

He is the fourth player in league history to accomplish the feat and the second this season to do so (Adam Brett Walker II)…Chicago Dogs RHP Jordan Kipper has won seven straight decisions. That is the second-longest streak in the American Association this season, trailing only Milwaukee Milkmen right-hander Myles Smith who won eight straight decisions…A victory by Milwaukee or a loss by Winnipeg on Wednesday will give the Milkmen the final playoff spot in the North Division.
