Silviano Slam Leads RedHawks Comeback
Tuesday night seemed like the improbable comeback that would never happen again, but the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks found another way to rally, falling behind 5-0 before rallying to earn a 10-6 victory in Game 5 of the North Division Championship Series. John Silviano led the way with a two-run single and a grand slam that put his team on top for good.
Chicago took the lead in the top of the first thanks to an error that opened the floodgates for four runs. Brennan Metzger reached on an error by the Fargo centerfielder to start the frame, and Michael Crouse followed with a double to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. RedHawks starter Ryan Flores retired the next two batters, but Joey Terdoslavich doubled to drive home Crouse and T.J. Bennett followed with his third homerun of the postseason to put the Dogs on top by four. Terdoslavich extended the lead to five with a solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning and it looked like Chicago would run away with this contest.
However, Silviano delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth pull his team within three, then gave the RedHawks the lead when he blasted a two out grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning, his first homerun of the postseason. Chicago got a run back in the top of the eighth, but Fargo sealed victory in the bottom half of the frame, as Alex Boxwell led off with a homerun and Fargo added two more runs with two outs. The RedHawks scored six of their 10 runs with two outs.
Luke Lind earned the victory with two scoreless innings in relief. Alex DuBord did a spectacular job in securing the victory, tossing 1.2 innings of relief. Silviano finished with two hits and six RBI. Dylan Kelly, Jordan George, and Nick Novak each scored two runs.
