Miscues Aid RedHawks in Victory
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks battled back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Chicago Dogs on Tuesday, giving the team a 2-1 lead in the North Division Championship Series. A wild bottom of the ninth inning gave Fargo the opportunity to earn the victory. John Silviano delivered, recording a two-out hit to drive home the winning run to give the RedHawks a 6-5 win.
Chicago jumped out in front with runs in the first and second inning. Anfernee Grier hit his first homerun of the postseason to put Chicago on top 2-0. The RedHawks pulled within a run, then took the lead in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI single by Manuel Boscan and a wild pitch. Chicago responded with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, thanks to a two-run error by outfielder Kevin Krause that put the Dogs back on top.
Chicago looked like they were going to hang on for the victory, as closer Jeff Kinley retired the side in the bottom of the eighth, but the RedHawks kept things going when Nick Novak delivered a pinch-hit single with one out in the bottom of the night. Dylan Kelly then grounded a ball to short, but Johnny Adams could not field the ground ball, putting two on with one down. That brought Leobaldo Pina to the plate, who grounded a ball to Joey Terdoslavich. The Chicago second baseman tagged second, but his throw to first was low, allowing Pina to reach. That brought Silviano to the plate. Fargo tied the score on a wild pitch, then Silviano delivered the game-winner, knocking a 3-1 pitched just past Terdoslavich to score Pina with the winning run.
Alex Boswell went 2-3 with two runs scored and Sam Dexter was 3-3 with two doubles and an RBI. T.J. Bennett had three hits for Chicago. Grier scored two runs.
