Jared Walker Named PURE Performance Player of the Month.

This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report in partnership with PURE name Sioux City Explorers IF Jared Walker as the PURE Performance Player of the Month for May. Walker led the American Association in homers with six and in RBI with 18.

It was a fantastic month, as Walker appeared in all 12 games for Sioux City, hitting .341 with 14 runs scored, eight extra-base hits, and an on-base percentage of .442.

The Sioux City Explorers begin the season with a three-game series against the Houston Apollos, earning the sweep in large part because of the performance of Walker. He homered in each of the three games, finishing the series 4-10 with four runs scored and eight runs driven in. He also walked in each of the first three games.

The team then welcomed Milwaukee where the Explorers infielder was 3-9 in the series with three runs scored, a double, a homer, and four RBI. He also drew walks in each of the three games of that series, reaching base by walking each of the first six games of the year.

Sioux City then moved on to take on Kansas City, where they won the first two games of that series before the third was washed out by rain. Walker had a solid performance in the series, going 3-9 with three runs scored.

This past weekend Sioux City took on Chicago where Walker went 3-11 with three run scored, a homer, and two RBI. He also drew a walk in the series.

On Monday, Sioux City defeated Milwaukee 8-3. Walker had a big contest, going 3-5 with a run, a double, a homer, and four RBI.

Walker ranked among the leaders in almost every offensive category. He is tied for first in homers (6), first in RBI (18), first in run scored (14), first in total bases (35), third in extra-base hits (8). And first in slugging percentage (.795).

For earning the PURE Performance Player of the Month award, Jared Walker will receive a check for $250 from PURE. Walker was also named as the PURE Performance Player of the Week for Week 1.
