Nick Gotta Given PURE Performance Player Honors
The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association announced that Sioux Falls Canaries infielder Nick Gotta has been named the PURE Performance Player of the Week for Week 4. Gotta had an unbelievable .643 average during the week, reaching base 16 times.
Gotta started the week against the Cleburne Railroaders, going 2-5 with a run scored in the two contests they played. The Sioux Falls infielder went 0-2 with a run scored and two walks in the opening contest, and followed that up with a 2-3 performance where he drew his third walk of the series.
Sioux Falls then traveled to Jackson to take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes, where he had an impressive series, going 7-9 with two runs scored and two RBI. Gotta began the series going 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. Gotta grounded out with one down in the sixth, which was significant because it was the last time that the Goldeyes would get him out in the series.
The infielder walked in his final at-bat of the contest, then reached base nine more consecutive times over the next two contests. Gotta went 3-3 with a run, two RBI, and two walks on Saturday, then went 3-3 with a walk on Sunday. He reached base intend consecutive plate appearances, setting an American Association record.
Gottta reached base by a walk in all five contests last week, extending his streak streak of 11 straight games of drawing at least one base on balls. That is another American Association record.
For the week, Gotta hit .643, and posted a gaudy .762 on base percentage. His 1.405 OPS was second best in the American Association last week.
For earning PURE Performance Player of the Week, Nick Gotta will receive a check for $100 from PURE. Gotta is the first Canaries player to earn honors this season.
