Thomas DeBonville, Erwin Real Earn July Pecos League Honors
On Saturday, the Minor League Sports Report named Tucson Saguaros outfielder Thomas DeBonville as the Player of the Month for July in the Pecos League. Teammate Erwin Real was named as the Pitcher of the Month for July in the league.
July Player of the Month: Thomas DeBonville, Tucson Saguaros
The Minor League Sports Report named Tucson Saguaros outfielder Thomas DeBonville the Player of the Month for July. To say that he has separated himself from the rest of the league is like saying that it can be a little warm in Texas in the summer.
DeBonville has been absolutely dominant, posting a .551 batting average in 16 games, more than 100 points higher than the next best hitter in the league. He finished July with 25 runs scored and 22 RBI. He is first in runs scored and second in RBI.
The Tucson outfielder posted at least one hit in 14 of the 16 games this season, including recording a nine-game hitting streak to begin the year. He began the season with three straight three-hit games and was 23-29 during the first nine games of the year. That included a five-hit game on July 11 against the Roswell Invaders.
He has reached base in all 16 games this year and leads the Pecos League with a .597 on-base percentage. He has 11 walks.
DeBonville has scored at least one run 13 of his games and has driven in a run in 10 games this season. He had a season high four runs scored on July 16, and has driven in four in a game twice (July 5 and July 16). He is tied for second in doubles (8), tied for first in triples (2), and is second in extra-base hits with 11.
July Pitcher of the Month: Erwin Real, Tucson Saguaros
The Minor League Sports Report named Tucson Saguaros starter Erwin Real as the Pitcher of the Month for July. Real led the Pecos League in wins in the month.
The right-hander made three starts during the month, going 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA. His first start came on July 5, when he allowed four hits and two runs in six innings. The Tucson starter walked two and struck out six in the 16-15 victory over the Salina Stockade.
On July 11, he tossed five innings in a 9-3 victory over the Roswell Invaders. Real allowed nine hits, four walks, and two earned runs. He struck out a season high eight.
On July 19, Real was solid in a 7-2 victory over the Houston Apollos. He went five innings, allowing six hits, three walks, and an earned run. He stuck out five.
Real has 19 strikeouts this season, tied for fourth.
