Three Helena Brewers Tagged as Pioneer League All-Stars
Tonight’s All-Star Game between the Pioneer League and the Northwest League will see three Helena Brewers take part. Last week, starter Nelson Hernandez was selected as well as infielder Dallas Carroll and reliever Parker Bean to play in tonight’s contest in Hillsboro, OR.
The selection of Dallas Carroll was an absolute no brainer. The ninth round selection out of the University of Utah has been one of the hottest hitters in the Pioneer League, entering the contest with a .336 average in 30-games. He has hits in 24 of those contests and posted a nine-game winning streak from July 10 to July 21. Entering the All-Star break he had homers in back-to-back contests for the second time in his career and has 5-home runs, 28-runs scored and 21-RBI. Dallas also has an impressive .418 on-base percentage. The Brewers infielder is currently 11th in the Pioneer League in hitting. Dallas will start in the contest, bat fifth and play third base.
Nelson Hernandez remains undefeated entering the mid-season classic. He is 5-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 8-starts, allowing 55-hits in 40-innings pitched. He has only walked 9. Nelson was undrafted but has proven to be an effective starter for Helena this season, going at least five-innings in all but one of his starts this year. While struggling in his last three contests, the right-hander was absolutely brilliant early on, allowing two-runs or less in four of his first five starts. Nelson is leading the Pioneer League in victories and his 40.0-innings pitched is ranked sixth.
Parker Bean leads the Helena Brewers with 4-saves and has an 0-1 record and a 4.82 ERA. He has made 10 appearances this season, allowing 13-hits in 18.2-innings pitched, walking 13 while striking out 18. Opponents are hitting just .191 against him this year. The right-hander began the season as more of a long man out of the bullpen, but has been used in the closer’s role a lot more of late. From July 4 to July 17, Parker had saves in four consecutive appearances. He is tied for third in the league in saves.
The Pioneer League All-Stars take on the Northwest League All-Stars at 7:05 PST. You can watch the game on MiLB.TV.
