Walker Drives in Five to Lead Milkmen over AirHogs, 10-3
The AirHogs had an early lead in this one, but weren’t able to hold on and fell behind late. Starter Zech Lemond had a decent outing, but unfortunately he will be stuck with his 8th loss of the season. AirHogs weren’t able to keep up with the Milwaukee offense, despite their early lead and fell well behind.
Zech Lemond was able to keep the Milkmen at bay in the first inning not allowing a run, and the AirHogs immediately took advantage in the bottom half of the 1st inning. Moroney made it to first on a fielder’s choice that cutdown Li Ning at second. Moroney then stole second to put himself in scoring position for Ijames. Ijames struck out swinging, but the next man up Javion Randle was able to drive Moroney in with a double to left center putting the AirHogs on top 1-0.
The Milkmen responded with a run of their own in the top of the second when Lemond tried sneaking a fast ball by Milwaukee’s CF Adam Walker, who saw it the whole way and launched the ball over the left field wall for his first of three bombs on the night. With one swing Walker tied the game 1-1 with the AirHogs.
The AirHogs still weren’t ready to fold over as they responded in the bottom half of the second inning when Yang Jin got on base with a single. He moved to second on a single from Jinjun, and was then driven home with Stephen Haviar ripped a single to right center and drove Yang Jin in from second putting the AirHogs on top again 2-1.
Unfortunately that would be the last lead of the game for the AirHogs as in the next 7 innings the Hogs gave up 9 runs and ended up losing 10-3. In the 4th inning two leadoff walks came around to hurt Lemond when he threw a bad pitch to Adam Walker again who ripped a 3-run bomb into left field and really put the game out of reach at 4-2. The AirHogs would allow two more home runs in the ninth inning, one more to Walker for his 3rd bomb of the game. While the AirHogs were able to manufacture a run in the 8th inning, but it wasn’t enough to come back as the AirHogs fell 10-3.
Rough night for Zech Lemond who will be stuck with his 8th loss of the season as he went 6.0 IP giving up 6 runs 5 of which were earned on 7 hits while walking 3 and striking out 6. While the numbers don’t look great for Lemond he once again pitched better than the numbers would suggest, as he really only had two bad pitches that went yard for 4 runs. The AirHogs will finish up this inaugural series with the Milkmen with game 3 tomorrow. AirHogs RHP Kevin Hilton will get the start tomorrow and he will face off against Milwaukee RHP Angel Ventura. First pitch is tomorrow at 7:05 PM.
